My appointment was at 8am, and people were already starting to queue up from about 7.15am, although noone from the embassy came out until about 7.45am. The forms were checked, bag was put through the xray maching, and I made the short walk to the Visa part of the embassy to get my number. (Be sure that you have absolutely no electricals with you on the day...a few people were caught out as they had car keys and headphones)
Once in, I took a seat and waited as they started to call the N-numbers, and an I-number every now and again. After about half an hour I was called to a window, where a nice British lady was waiting. After checking my details, she went off to get my file, and after initially not being able to find my medical results, which hadn't been put with my file, we got going. This 1st interview was more of a chat to make sure all the forms were there, and to let me know the processes when I enter the US. I also mentioned that we're expecting twins, which she said to definitely mention to the American interviewer, and after about 5-10 minutes, I was told that i would probably get approved and sent back to the waiting area.
I waited probably another 30-40 minutes there before being called to the 2nd part of the interview with an American guy who must have been in training, as he had a supervisor behind him, and he didn't completely seem like he knew 100% what he was doing. He'd already been told about the twins, so we had a quick chat, and then I had to sign a couple of forms, and take an oath that everything in the forms was true to the best of my knowledge. From there, he asked me to tell him how we met, then to talk a bit about Emily, then to talk a bit about her family...and then he completely threw me off guard by asking how we were going to support ourselves as I wouldn't be able to work for about 6 months while my EAD came through! I said that I didn't realise that was the case (which it isn't), but said that we had Emily's family to support us. He then checked with his supervisor who said that it would probably take 2 weeks for my EAD, but the border control could tell me more about that (She was wrong as well since CR-1 holders don't need EAD). Anyway, after keeping my composure and answering these, the guy said that he was happy to let me know that we were approved and sent me to pay the courier charge.
Not once did I get asked for any extra paperwork, even the 2011 Tax transcripts.
Overall, it was a fairly stress free and easy experience, although I must admit that their giving me the wrong information regarding the need for EAD did throw me off. Still, now all that's left is for POE and being back with my wife!!
