Review Topic: K1 Visa

Overall, our day was full of adventure! We arrived at 7:30am. We were not on the list and had to wait an hour outside while our appointment was confirmed by the Immigration office. Once we were inside, our number was called within 30 minutes. We both approached the window and once we mentioned why we were there we were told that there were no K1 interviews that day. Luckily, we had our email that was sent with our date. It seems their system said that our interview was the next day, a day after the date that was emailed to us. All in all, there were 2 1/2 interviews. They briefly spoke with us when we first approached the window, then my fiance had an interview where he submitted nearly all of the forms. All forms were thoroughly checked and he was asked about how we met, how long we have been together, his job, where and when we will get married...she was very nice!!! They took our forms and pictures to review and he was told to pay and wait for the next interview. The consulate officer asked him how many times we have seen eachother, how we communicate, about his job, basic questions. I was asked about my job, how long we have been together and where I live. We were requested to bring an additional paper from the Venezuelan registry that is related to his divorce. this of course is extremely important for a k1 visa. My fiance currently lives outside of venezuela, so the divorce decree that we had was not enough. He was asked to bring the form back as soon as he can. I will go with him again to finish the interview because we feel like being there together helped prove our relationship and calm our nerves a little bit. We held hands and did the experience together, supporting each other every step of the way. We left the embassy before 1pm. We will give another review for our next interview.
A few key tips:
*if you have a cell phone or ANYTHING with a battery, you will not pass security. American citizens can ask for their items to be held. There is a building outside to the right of security for american citizens only. a security guard will buzz you in and you can ask for them to hold the cell phones. the phones must be turned off and you will be handed a number. You will use the number to retrieve your items when you leave.
*there is a place (if needed) to make copies inside the consulate. it is located in a tiny building beside where the drinks are sold - in the outside area.
*Ask questions on where to go for the immigrant visa so that you can be directed to the correct area. if the american citizen is present, keep the usa passport handy. as soon as officers saw my passport we were instantly directed to the immigrant section.

Good Luck!
