Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

They open the gate only at the assigned time- 1.30PM. Then you go through the security check and they will ask you to go to Window 5. They allowed only the beneficiary, not the petitioner to go inside.

At window 5, they take your postage and verify your passport, and fetch your NVC file. Then they ask you to wait for the CO to call you. The interview was nerve-racking. I believe I was very well prepared. I had a copy of every single document I had sent them, all neatly organized. You don't have a birth certificate? (I did not, and I had sent in the non-availability certificates and affidavits). You have been to the US before- do you have your old visa documents? (I had them all neatly organized, at home!) he spent some time trying to bring up my information on his screen. I don't know what the result was. Did your spouse's family come to the wedding? (No, they couldn't come due to medical/educational reasons). Will you have another wedding in the US? (No, but we will have a reception). Is your spouse's name on the property you own (No).

It went on like this for what felt like eternity- him asking me stuff for which my answers mostly included an apologitic no. By this time, I was very nervous. I had done everything I could to get this visa, spent a huge amount of time to get it done correctly; but things did not look like they were going smoothly.

After going through my file one last time, he looks at me and says "your visa has been issued. It will be mailed out in 3 days". At least, that is what I believe he said. It took some time for my mind to process this. I ran out, to kiss my spouse, who had been waiting outside.
