i was informed of my interview date which was on 26.03 at 9am, around
6 weeks before, so we had an agonising 6 weeks wait ahead of us. i had
my medical in january before i had found out the date for the
interiew as medical is valid for a year and i did not know what they
might want from me at the medical and i wanted to ensure that i have
all injections etc done on time for the interview. it turned out that
this was a good move that i did not wait for the interview date first
and then booking my medical,as i have had some problems with the
medical and it was all resolved around 4 weeks before the interview. i
live in Suffolk were lots of people commute to London to work and the
train company uses this to their advantages (somehow this is legal)
therefore peak time ticket costs around £78 (!) for a 1.5h train trip
to London (which is also always overcrowded and you can only dream of
finding a seat). instead i bought a national express coach ticket for
£18.00 a journey that takes only an hour longer than train but had
plenty of space to sit and read and eat and drink lol. booked online
marble arch Inn, on upper Barkley str near oxford street. it was £50
if booked online £60 if booked by phone, the hotel was about max. 15
min walk to the Embassy, the staff was very nice and accommodating and
the hotel itself was very clean, had tv and a kettle so i was ok. the
only thing that i did not like it had a shower on one floor and the
toilet on another floor but for £50 a hotel near oxford street and
just for one night, was a great deal to me. to take my mind of the
morning interview i have spend nice time with my friends who live in
London and i felt good and positive when i woke up the next morning.
i made sure i left all my items and phone etc in the hotel (there have
a free storage and safe lockers to use) and armed with just my papers
i went to the Embassy about 7.45am. there was a small que outside
they asked for the letter and then u go to have your items check, a
bit like at the airport. i was lucky that my interview was at 9am as
there were hardly any people around that time but later on the line
just got longer and longer. once inside at approx 8.20am i had my
number given and about 20 min later i was called for the first stage
interview, were they check all your papers and might ask you some
question, i was asked only 2 questions, all seemed fine and then i was
waiting for about 30-40 min for the second stage which lasted about 10
min, lady asked few questions about how we met and why American
husband (lol) and our children and who visited who and when and why,
she looked at the papers few times and then said thank you- you have
been approved and that was it.
i hope this will help you a bit as i might say my husband copied and
pasted plenty of testimonials of others for me so i wont get so
worried (there were some bad anxious moments during those 6 weeks) so
now is my turn to ease someone else's anxiety lol. if i can advice and
it is possible pls travel for the interview the day before if the
interview is early and you got few hours of drive as you dont want to
be stressed and tired and day out in london can be fun!
