I arrived at 6:40am, for my 8am interview. There was no one else there, not even workers. The sign on the door said they open at 8am. I thought I'd showed up way to early until ten minutes later when the next person showed up. By 7am there were plenty of people in line and I was glad to have gone so early.
At 7:33am they opened the door, and since I was first in line, let me in.
Someone checked to see that I had my appointment confirmation letter and my passport.
The next guard did not say anything to me. He just tapped a sign on the desk that said profane language and verbal or physical abuse is not tolerated and will result in your removal from the building. He then said empty your pockets and turn off your cell phone. He kept my phone and gave me a ticket. Having my phone did not add any extra time really. Maybe 10 seconds. Not an issue. I walked through a metal detector with no problem. They let me keep my house keys, wallet with paper and coin money, and my paperwork. The guard told me to 'go through that door' and 'have a nice day'.
When you get to the door you have to push it then pull it. It's easy to do, just weird. You go down some stairs and then follow the yellow arrows on the floor to the elevator. If no one is there, sit in the chair to the left. If there's lots of people and it's close to 8am (there's a clock on the wall to the right on the elevator), then just stand by the elevator. Get into the back of the elevator when it arrives. The door will open on the backside.
When you get off the elevator you go to a window and get your number. I got C2 and was the first person called to an interview window. I went to window 12 and gave my passport to the woman there. She seemed to be having trouble finding me in the computer and told me to take a seat while she looks for something, and then went to ask someone for help. A few minutes later she called my number and I went back to the same window, number 12. She had the same checklist as you get with (i think) packet 3. She made sure everything listed was in her file. The only thing I gave her was my letter of intent and birth certificate. My birth certificate was given back to me at the end of the interview. She also took scans of all my finger prints.
I went and sat down again to wait for the interview to call me back. About 15 mins later a man called my name to window 7. He was super nice. He checked one of my finger prints, and then I was sworn in.
He asked me where I live.
He asked what I do for work. - I said I work in a retail store
He asked what we sell, what kind of store it is. We then chatted a bit about that.
He asked what my fiancés name is.
What does my fiancé do for a living. I said tattooer. He then chatted about his friend who owns a tattoo shop.
He asked if I had ever lived in the USA.
He asked if I'd ever had trouble crossing the border. I said yes and we chatted about that.
He asked how I had met a guy so far away from where I live.
He looked at the photos of us and said he thought our tattoos were cool.
He then said he just had to look at some stuff on his computer and did some typing and then some reading and then typing and reading for a few minutes. I have no idea what he was looking at. Maybe my travel history, maybe googling the company my fiancé works for, maybe just filling out some paperwork.
He then told me he was going to be approving my K1 visa!
He handed me a sheet of paper and said, this is the original application your fiancé submitted, it's time for you to sign it now.
He then handed me the "Welcome to the USA" letter and told me what to expect when I cross the border for the first time and when I should receive my passport.
I thanked him, left the window. I went back to the front desk to get my cellphone, which again took maybe 10 seconds.
The next day I got an email saying my passport was on it's way.
