Here is a review of my CR-1 Visa Interview at the US Consulate in Montreal, Canada. Note that I am a citizen of Taiwan. The fact that I was not a Canadian citizen did not effect my interview in any way. Note also that my prior tourist and study permit application 214b denials also had no effect at any point in my application process or interview.
My appointment was at 9am. I arrived at the Montreal Consulate at 7:00am and waited outside. At 7:35am, I was allowed in. A receptionist asked for my Appointment Letter, DHL Letter and passport. I then proceeded to security. I brought nothing in that required a locker so I didn't use it. I so recommend bringing just your documents in if you can help it. It makes the security screening so very simple and fast. He scanned me in. After waiting at the initial security area for about 30 minutes, I was led downstairs to an elevator to the 19th Floor at about 8am. First stop was windows 14b for a number. I was #2 in queue (C2). Then I waited in a waiting area. After about 20 minutes, I was called up for fingerprinting and submitting all my civil documents. They also asked for a copy of our I-130 petition we submitted to USCIS which I did not bring as it was not listed on the document list in my interview appointment letter. The person accepting the forms said that was fine and didn't require me to send it in to them. She confirmed my birth date, my home address in Canada and my husband's US address. After another 20 minutes, at about 8:40am, I was called up to the interviewer. The interviewer was relaxed, kind and pleasant. The interview lasted less than five minutes. The interviewer first handed me my civil documents. Then, I was sworn in. He asked only the following seven questions: My husband's name, have I ever lived in the USA, where do I live now in Canada, how did we meet, have I ever traveled to the USA before, where does my husband live and Where does my husband work? He then gave me DHL instructions. He then welcomed me to the USA and told me that I will receive my visa. He said that it would take five business days to issue my visa. The last thing he asked me to do is to take my thumbprint. I was then free to go. I was all finished by 8:45am. The only hard part about the whole experience was the cold weather outside. I was surprised to receive my passport & visa the very next day by DHL.
