Washington DC | Review on November 22, 2011: | Joe and Ann

Rating: | Review Topic: Adjustment of Status
My wife, Ann, and stepson, Daine, had their adjustment of status (AOS) interviews at the Washington DC Field Office, in Fairfax, Virginia, on November 16th. After making it through security, we handed the appointment letters to the receptionist in the waiting area. We waited about an hour past the interview time. We were taken to a back office by a very pleasant and engaging adjudicating officer.
She opened our files and inquired with us regarding some missing documents ... she was sure that they had been in the file at one point, but had gone walkabout. Luckily, we had copies of everything and were able to supply replacements.
She asked us several questions: when did you meet, where did you meet, when was your first visit, when and where were you engaged, when and where were you married, and how many people attended the wedding. She did not ask for current photos, but rather looked through photos from the file ... she especially liked the photos of me and my stepson at a Boy Scouts of the Philippines induction ceremony (I took part in the capping ceremony). She also asked for Ann and Daine to reaffirm answers to questions on the Form I-485.
She asked for evidence of pooled assets. We provided bank statements with our names on them as well as insurance documents from both my old job and new job showing that they are covered under my benefit plans and are beneficiaries on the life and AD&D policies.
At the end, the adjudicating officer smiled and stated that she was recommending approval of Ann's and Daine's green cards. Overall, a relatively painless experience.
