Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Our appointment was for 9:00 AM but we arrived at like 6:30 or something like that. There were probably 20 people there already in 4 different lines outside the embassy. Nobody knew what line to get in. At first they only asked for the 7:00 appointments to get in line 3 first. We tried, but they made us wait. They finally called us to the front after about 30 min. We went through the security check. No cell phones with cams allowed so my wife had to check hers. You have to take your belt and jacket off also. Then we went inside and had to get in another line to receive a green folder in which we were instructed how to organize all our paperwork. We did this within about 10 minutes. Then we were told to wait. Then my wife was called to window 31 to answer some general questions. The lady working there asked my wife if I was there with her. She said yes, he is standing behind me. She said that when she is doing the other part of the interview...the real interview, that I should stay right at her side. She asked my wife questions such as: how is the relation with her with my kids? if I was with her, she remarked that we had a lot of ¨prueba¨ of the relationship and that was good. Then we waited a little bit longer after that...almost one hour....and my wife was called up to do her fingerprints. Then we waited again 1 1/2 mas before we were finally called to window number 6. It was a very smiley, friendly gringa looking lady who was super polite and asked my wife a few questions...everything in Spanish. How old were my kids, a couple other super simple things. And that was it. Maybe 2 minutes. She did not ask to see any other ¨prueba¨ or photos even though we had a mountain of things with us. After that we were told we were approved, and to pay the Domesa fee. We wanted to get the visa as soon as possible so we are staying here in Bogota to get it quicker. We were able to indicate we wanted to pick up the visa ourselves to make it even easier. So hopefully we will have it tomorrow. Both of the women who were asking my wife questions said it was a really good thing that I was there. Neither one of them asked me any questions, but both were looking. And I was smiling a lot, especially at the second interviewer so maybe that helped? Quien sabe....Anyway, it seemed like more than 1/2 of the couples passed, even though there did not seem to be many couples there.

Good luck to all the others who will interview soon.
