My interview was scheduled for 8:30 in the morning but that didn't really mean anything once through the doors. I arrived at the Embassy 7:50,there were already about 10 people queuing. I showed a women my passport and appointment letter and she asked if I had any electronics on me, it was surprising how many people were turned away because of this!! We went in by 4s into a small building where our belongings were checked,it was just like being at the airport. They were nice friendly guys and I didn't find it at all intimidating like some people have. We were cleared to enter the Embassy then. It took about 10 minutes in all,so not at all like I was expecting.
When in the embassy people had to que at a desk where another women checked appointment letters and passports. Different visas were given different ticket numbers, I already knew that the K visas were given I numbers (from visa journey!!) The women stuck my ticket on to my letter, I memorised it I907!! I went to the a big room and took a seat in front of the screens that display the numbers. There were already lots of people in there and it only got busier throughout the morning. The room was actually real nice and airy, I don't know why but I was expecting it to be real dark and all wood with lots of flags haha. Everybody kind of kept themselves to themselves with polite smiles all round. I noticed that the couple across from me had an I number and were married. Lots of N numbers were called and then after about 40 minutes, the couple across from me were called before me. Eventually it came my turn, I went up to window 14 and saw a nice man who pulled out all our paperwork that had ever been submitted. He gave me back our affidavit of support and said we wouldn't need it until AOS. I was kind of confused that they didn't really check anything a whole lot. The man took my finger prints and gave me a pink courier form to fill in and told me to take a seat back in the big room until I was called for my interview. I took this opportunity to pop to the loo as didn't think they were likely to call me immediately.
I went and got myself an orange juice and sat back down. I saw the couple that
had gone before me and they were sat filling in what looked like the DS forms and they didn't look impressed!! It felt like I was waiting forever as there were so many numbers being called N,E and some Is. I had my book with me but I was so nervous I couldn't take anything in. I finally saw the couple I'd seen going up for there interview and returning very unhappy, bypassing the courier desk....this made me worry even more especially as I was called to that same window. When I went up to window 15 I was greeted by a VERY friendly American women who took my finger prints again, asked me to sign a form and swear an oath that I was telling the truth. The lady asked me how long my fiance and I had been together, asked about him being in the military and what he was now studying at school. She then asked if I had any photos, looked through them and actually laughed out loud when she saw one of us in fancy dress, she even asked if she could show her colleague (of course I said yes, haha.) Then she just said "I'm going to go ahead and approve you guys." I was so happy and I thanked her. Overall she was such a lovely lady and she put me at ease so much. It was very informal and easy going!!
I went up to the courier desk and paid for my delivery, was told it would take 3-5 days. I left the Embassy very happy and even armed police said what a big smile I had and that I must of got my visa.
I was such a worry pot before my interview and like everyone says it really wasn't at all bad. I guess as long as you have the right paperwork and nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about. I received my actual visa from the courier today,it only took a couple of days.
GOOD LUCK everyone going through this and remember to smile..people love people who smile!!
