Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview was at 9.30am and I think I arrived to queue up at about 8:15. The queue moved quickly and after having my passport and appointment letter checked I was sent through security. They were sending people through in groups of four, but it all moved pretty quickly and I think I was in the embassy just after 9am. You show your app letter and passport to a person at the front desk who they gives you your number, I was I92..something so although I thought I was early, it turns out there were a few people even earlier!

Then the wait began...I had been to the embassy a couple times before so was aware of how it all works. It's a case of check the screens and wait for your number to be called. For the most part numbers are called in order, however the confusing thing is that there are 2 parts to the process (handing over the paperwork and the actual 'interview') which makes it seem like the nunbers are being called randomly. Anyway after about 2 and a half hours I was called to the first window (window 13 - only windows 1 and 13 seemed to be dealing with I numbers for the paperwork part). The lady at window 13 was very nice and friendly and just had a look over my file and asked for the documents outlined online. Nothing more and nothing less. She let me know what would happen next and about the, oh so precious brown envelope, and that if someone was meeting me at the airport to let them know that immigration may take some time. I explained that I was making a connection because I was taking my dog with me and have to go through IAH which seem to make her very happy and she actually said she would have apporved my visa there and then if she was able which was nice :-)

Anyway, back to the waiting area and after a much shorter wait (about 15 mins) I was called to window 16 for the 'interview'. As many others have mentioned the interview consists of writing your fiancee's name and signing yours, swaering you'll tell the truth and then some mundane questions. By this point I'm pretty sure everything is already decided, however after the questions I was given the good news that the visa was apporved.

You then go to pay the courier and off you go. My visa was delivered in 3 working days on the standard service...happy days.

Some advice that will help:
Read the information they send you and take all of the forms they ask for. The first lady I spoke to mentioned that a lot of people don'y fill out the paperwork correctly or bring the correct forms which delays things, but as long as you read the instructions you really can't goi wrong.
Apart from that, take a book to read because the wait can't be long and all they have to read there are some booklets about visiting America!

Only gave 4/5 because of the long wait!
