I want to start off by saying that the interview was the easiest thing in the world and I stressed and worried for nothing. That said, I'll tell you my interview story.
My interview appointment wasn't until 9:30, but I had a restless night and got up at 4 am and was in London by 6:20am. I took the tube from Waterloo to Bond street where I mapped my way to Gould's pharmacy. I arrived there about 7:00am. (They don't open until 7:30) So I went to Starbucks, which is about 30 seconds walk away. After a very hot and nice vanilla soy latte I headed back to Gould's to hand in my phone. It was 3 pounds but very secure and reliable system, so totally worth it. I joined the already growing queue outside the embassy and started chatting to a chap who was next to me to make the time go quicker. Around 20 minutes later, I was called to a security man who checked my appointment letter and passport and then was asked to go to the x-ray room and have my bags, etc x-rayed. Then I walked around to the right of the building and up some stairs. I was greeted by someone who again checked my appointment letter and passport and gave me my Immigration number on a sticker which she stuck to the appointment letter. Then I walked up more stairs and entered the waiting room. IT IS HUGE with TVs in the middle that show you what number is being called and what window number to go to. I sat down and about 15 minutes later was called to window 13 and was greeted by a British lady who at first was rude, but soon cheered up after a minute or two. She checked through all my documents and wanted to see my original name change deed, but that was all. Then she gave me a pink form to fill in before my interview. (This is the courier slip so your visa can be sent back to you by DX Secure.) I sat down and 7 minutes later was called to window 16 for my actual interview. I was not prepared for the quickness and I instantly got so nervous I could have vomited. I was greeted by a very nice American man who asked me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth, of course I said yes. Here is where my mind went blank. I thought I wouldn't be able to tell him anything, but he only asked 3 easy questions:
1: How did you meet your wife?
2: What do you do for work?
3: What do you want to do when you get to the states?
Then he jotted a few notes and closed the folder he had on me and said "WELL SIR, I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND APPROVE YOUR VISA. "In my head I was thinking nah this can't be right! Then the man said the visa would arrive in about 5-10 days and told me to have a great week.
So please don't worry its sooooo easy and not as bad as you think. I actually was out by 9:00am, 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment time.
So my tip of the day is get there well early! The queue forms very fast.
