Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

I, the husband/petitioner, was allowed to go through the process with my wife and I think the visa officer liked seeing that I was present. I did not include the DS-230 Part I because I thought that it was originally included in the I-130 filing. They were very friendly and let my wife fill it out...they happened to have an extra sheet. My wife's police check was not finished yet, though we filed for it a month and a half before the interview (my wife moved from the north to the south so her's was more involved.).

When it came time for my wife's interview, I walked to the window with her, the officer greeted me and asked if I was the petitioner and then asked me to sit down away from them. He asked my wife very simple questions like the dates of our engagement and wedding parties, where and how did we meet, what will she do in the USA, and had she been to the USA before. Also, they asked her when we plan to go to the USA.

They did tell my wife that she needs the police check, but everything else is ok. They told her how to submit the paperwork and what to do if we want to travel to the USA after the 6 month limit.

The officer was not overly-friendly, but he was affable after a the initial greeting and parting ways. The Consulate waiting area was very HOT! Though it was clean, it was poorly circulated and cooled. Dress light! Everyone else The security guards and the other officers) was very friendly and happy for us.
