I flew to Guangzhou and arrived on Sept 11th to prepare for the interview on Sept 14th. We went over and over everything and thought we had everything prepared. On the day of the interview I was siting in the cafe with a few other American people I had met outside the embassy the morning of the interview. The first interviewee appeared from the interview and shook her head and said she was missing the unmarried document. My heart sank when when I realized we did not have one either. Even though you may have a certificate of divorce or even if you have never been married you must have a notarized, translated document from the Chinese marriage office stating you have not been married before or have not been married since your last divorce. My fiancee recieved a blue paper and was told to mail the unmarried certificate to the embassy. We went back to Beijing got the unmarried document and mailed it to the embassy and now we are waiting to hear back from the embassy.
Here is how the interview went:
We lined up outside the embassy at about 7:15am there were two lines that were unmarked we were not sure which line to stand in but I just looked for the line with other Americans and had my fiancee go ask the man to make sure we were in the right line. They let every one in and I proceeded with the other Americans to the cafe and ordered a beer (I know it was early but didn't care). The first lady appeared about 2 hours after we sat down and like I said stated they needed the unmarried document. Then about an hour later my fiancee appeared and after we figured out what we needed I was able to ask her how the interview went.
She went into the interview room and there is a document checker. The document checker went through her papers and told her she was missing the unmarried document and then asked her what was her fiancee's full name. She told him my name and she was given a number and waited for her number to be called. Her number was called and the officer asked her where I worked, she told him. He asked how and when we first met, she told him the web site we met on and when and then he asked her who sent the first message, She told him I did. The officer then asked her some questions about some details about some emails we had printed out and wanted to know the type of perfume I had sent her. She told him Dior and then he looked at some pictures we submitted and ask her about some pictures of a party we attended during my last visit. She told him it was an engagement party with her family and friends he smiled and then gave her the blue paper stating we needed to mail the unmarried document to the embassy.
I am not sure how I missed the detail about the unmarried document, mabey it was because I assumed the divorce certificate would cover that. You know what the say about making assumptions. I would be curious to know how many of you out there are aware that you need this document. Sorry it took so long to get this out. I was just now able to get to a comuter and type this out.
