We arrived at the Embassy in Cairo about 7:15 am, showed them our interview letter (they wrote t2 on our letter) and we waited in line and was finally let in about 30 minutes later. We handed over our electronics, scanned for metal and our bags were x-rayed and we finally proceeded to the Immigration Section of the Embassy. We were number 512 out of 500-527.

We were called to the window 3 times, the first at 8:30 the lady was serious and she asked for my husbands passport, medical exam and 2 American passport pictures. She then asked if he understood the IV Application and if anyone assisted him in filling it out. She returned my bank statements, the ones I submitted with my AOS. She also asked us if we have ever been married before or have any children. Finally she gave us a DHL invoice and a contact information sheet. We paid 75 Egyptian Pounds for the DHL and then waited.

The Second time we were called to the window at 9:15, the lady took electronic fingerprint scans. We then sat down again and waited. The waiting room was crowded, once we left our chair someone else would be sitting there when we returned, it was like musical chairs.

The third and last time we were called, it was about 11:15. Our Consular Officer was a male in his mid 30’s, Caucasian. He was very polite, greeted us and began the interview. We both stood at the window while he shuffled through our papers and began talking to us. He typed our responses in the computer and listened attentively and respectfully.
He asked me about my home town and surprisingly he had been to my small city.
He asked my husband what city he was from, and commented that he hadn’t visited that city yet, but heard it was nice.
 When did you marry?
Have you visited Egypt before? When?
How/when did you two guys meet?
Did you understand everything in the IV application?

He didn’t ask to look at any additional pictures or documents. It was a very friendly chat as if we were talking to a new friend. He said it looked like we had all of our documents; he returned my husbands’ original documents, had him sign Part II of the IV Application, took the DHL receipt and the contact info sheet and finally told us he was going to approve the visa! He added that it would take the Embassy 2 weeks to process, Congratulations and Marbrook with a nice smile. I then commented that in 2 days it would be my birthday and this was a very nice birthday gift for me. We thanked him multiple times and hugged each other very tightly. It was a very beautiful moment where we both know that we would spend the rest of our lives together and finally begin our family.

Our advice, get enough sleep, review the questions on vj because you will not know what they may ask, don’t get too anxious, relax, be yourself and help yourself to some coffee/tea/sweets available in the waiting room. Don’t worry its not expensive!! Nescafe 5 LE, Danish 4.5 LE…enjoy. Good Luck, we wish you all the best!! -Leia & Mohammed
