Dealing with the American emabassy in Qatar was a relatively easy experience.

1. I emailed the embassy when I figured it had been a few days after the NVC sent my application. They emailed me back with Packet 3. This included requirements such as medical tests, income forms, birth certificate (take you original along with a copy), police clearance certificates (remember they require 2 certificates from the country of origin)
2. I had to take all this on a Sunday or Tuesday to the embassy where all the documents were reviewed and they asked me to get a 1040 on my interview day(i had a different copy from what the embassy required).
3. At my interview, which was 10 days after my initial visit where I submitted the documents; i had fingerprints taken etc. The interview was really smooth. I had pictures which the CO saw. He was a great guy and made me feel very comfortable. He told me at the end of the interview that I would receive the visa the following day !!

The only things to keep in mind:
1. Take original birth certificates and remember to get it back from them
2. Take your proof at the interview even though they never mention it
