This embassy contracts workers from the outside that have no knowledge of the immigration laws and rules. They are updated once a month on procedures, are rude and imcompetant. Be careful when they tell you something, it will very likely be wrong. My daughter-in-law had her interview on 08/24/09 and was told at the window that her DS-230 had the incorrect name on it (how many names do you have?). Once she went to the actual interview, the caseworker El Salvadoran) assigned to her was very intimidating and rude. He told her that my son did not make enough money to support her, even though he was way over the poverty guide line. She also had to come back a week later with a co-sponser (I-864A) and then he would tell her if she needed to file a waiver (I-601). Thank God when she went for the second interview, she had an American caseworker that told her that all her paperwork was correct and that she did not need to file a waiver due to the fact that she EWI's as a juvenile. He accepted the e-mailed I-864A since there was not enough time to send it via mail. Now we are in the process of waiting for a decision. My message is, be careful of the caseworkers in El Salvador. Ask questions and if needed as for a Supervisor. Good luck to all.
