Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

March 2 - 2:15PM my husband I showed up at 2:10 for our interview for him to get his green card. We were asked what we were there for and presented the letter w/ our interview time and directed to a room. The staff seemed very friendly, coming into the room to check w/ people on stuff. We weren't quite sure we were in the right room so we stopped one man and asked and he was very patient and listened and said yes, we were in the right place.

I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes to have our name called. However to our left was a couple who I think I know (friends of friends) who had been there since 8:15 that morning and apparently missed hearing their name and were up the creek - the officer said if someone had time, they would interview them, but when we left around 3, they were in the parking lot so we're not sure what happened. Moral: Listen closely!!! It's a big room w/ a loud TV.

Anywhere, I can't remember the name of the woman who interviewed us, but she was great; was beaming and cheerful from the beginning. She took us back to her office and immediately asked me how we met (even though my hubby was the one who needed the greencard!) I was flustered, because it embarasses me that we met Online. She asked me a few related question, and why we decided to move to the States instead of England (um, have you SEEN the weather over there???) She asked for our ID and his Passport and proof that we are living together as a married couple. We had about 5 binders worth of documents, originals and copies, and whipped out all of kinds of stuff. Health ins, Life ins, mortgage bill (we just bought a house together), contract for house w/ builder, utility bills, bank statements. We finally gave her so much that she said it was enough.

She took away his work permit and AP papers and stamped and wrote in my hubby's passport and said we'd get the 2 year green card in about 10 days and we were like, Wow, that's it?!? She said she could tell that we were a real couple. She answered a few of our questions and as we were packing up to go, saw our wedding pictures and asked to see them, just because she likes looking at pictures. She was great! We were out of there by 3, all smiles, and went shopping to celebrate.
