Consulate / USCIS Member Review #3681

Guangzhou, China Review on December 6, 2008:

The Portfolios

Rating:
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

We were neither denied nor granted a visa. Instead, we were told that all paperwork looked good but that since I, as the sponsor, was living and working in China, I technically had no income to support my wife. The reasoning being that I had no job in America. We were told to secure and prove employment in America and send it in, along with some paperwork they gave us. I contacted a friend in America and had him arrange a job for me, sending a offer letter to me, which I sent to the Consulate, and two months later we were sent a notice from Guangzhou (we were living in Shanghai) to come back to Guangzhou. The letter did not say that we would be granted the visa, it merely summoned my wife to the Consulate. Only when she arrived was she told she had been granted a visa. Once her passport was stamped with the visa, we had 6 months to enter America. Upon entry, her visa was changed to a Green Card, which she received in the mail several weeks later. Done!
