I got to the embassy at roughly 7:17. Over the next 10 minutes, a guy and another couple arrived and got in line. When 7:30 came around, we were all let in.
We were taken through some glass doors into a small holding area before we could proceed to the gentleman working the security checkpoint. They asked for my cell phone along with a few others in line. Afterwards, my appointment letter was taken and affixed to a plastic letter which I was given and told to go downstairs with the rest of the group and wait in the waiting room. While waiting, you are able to review a sheet that outlines what order the paperwork will be asked for once you reach the officers upstairs.
A guard asked for those with letters A-E (only letter available) to come forward and take a ride on the elevator up to the 19th floor. We all sat down once more in the new waiting area by 8:00am. At this point, letters were called one by one to provide paperwork and take care of administrative stuff. They were called in order, A>B>C... until they reached me, E. While we were all doing this, I managed to find out everyone waiting with me, save for one couple, were all members of VisaJourney or have read it.
First, I left my paperwork with a woman behind the window and was told to go pay the fee. I paid a teller the required fee in Canadian equivalent, which was acceptable, but be sure to have the right amount or close to it. Don't count on change. Its best to just get the US amount and be done with it. Second, I returned to the woman waiting with my paperwork and we got all of it handed in. It was already organized, which she was happy for I could tell. The last thing to happen was a fingerprint scan. I was called into my interview over the PA, where I went into the tiny rooms others have spoke of and spoke with a gentleman about my visa. Nothing was really asked besides how we met, where are we going to live, and what I plan on doing once I moved. The fact that my fiancee was between jobs wasn't a factor to him apparently either. After this, he told me I was approved and that the visa in my passport would be mailed out ASAP. I was out the door by 8:40am. All in all, it was a smooth experience.
