Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We arrived 30 mins early to the USCIS field office. We checked in, were given our number and went to sit in a large waiting room. During this time we saw many other couples enter and exit. Most went into the interview together. Most left with smiles- at least we didn’t see any tears this time. The wait was unbearable. We waited 2 hours before being called. They have bathrooms and drinking fountains- the waiting room is fine, but it just took so long. There are doors all around the room, it felt like a game of whackamole. You wait, you hear a door open behind you, a number is called- not you. You wait again. A door opens to your left and another number is called, etc.

Finally, we got called. We were prepared for a long interview. Most people seemed to take 30-45 mins. Some longer. Ours lasted maybe 5 minutes. I guess there were no issues with the application or filing, because we got asked a question about our house (probably because we didn’t submit and deed, mortgage, lease agreement, or property insurance details), and then almost immediately went into the standard questions about crime, military training, and terrorism.

Evidence we submitted:

-Financial comingling (joint bank account, 401k beneficiary, life insurance policies, health vision and dental dependent, authorized user on CC)

-relationship photos (focused on photos with extended family and friends to show personal comingling)

That was mostly it. I was scared after having read a lot of horror stories recently. Our interview was totally normal, uneventful, and pleasant. Everyone working there was very nice, especially the agents. From what we saw, basically everyone there had a normal experience too (idk about the 2 couples we saw who were separated. From what I saw there, they were given a more robust interview than we had or anyone else we saw)

We were told during the interview that we’d be approved.

Such a relief after constant stress during the lead up.
