INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE

I flew in from Melbourne a day early and stayed at the Vibe hotel in North Sydney which is super close to the consulate about a 5 minute walk. My appointment time was 9:30, what I’d read online said to get there 15 minutes early but when I got there the sign outside said not to go in more than 10 minutes early so at 9:20 I knocked on the glass door to enter the consulate and a security guard opened the door and enquired why I was there and I told him I had a visa interview appointment. He asked my name, checked the list and let me in. After I went in another security guard asked my name and checked the list again and told me to turn my mobile off or turn Bluetooth off.

Then I approached the desk and a lady asked for my passport, 1 passport photo, Australia Post expess envelope and my original documents. They put it all in a blue folder and handed it back to mex

After that you go through security similar to airport security. They then told me to take the lift up to level 5. Up here you turn right for Visas and wait in line to present the blue folder of your documents. I was in line here for quite a while maybe 30 minutes. Hard to tell as I didn’t have a watch on. The officer took my finger prints, checked everything, said it all looked good and then gave my numbered ticket and told me to take a seat.

This was the longest part, I was waiting till around 11:30 here and finally got called up. I was very nervous and I think the woman could tell so she tried to joke around with me which helped a lot! I had to raise my right hand and swear that I was telling the truth. Then she took my fingerprints again. She then asked me how my husband and I met, how many times we’ve met, where does he live, what does he do for work, have you met his family, how do we keep in touch, what will you do in America, where/when did you get married, when did you last see him etc. nothing too hard. She said I was an easy case and that I was approved!

I think the interview lasted about 30 minutes or so as it was about 12pm when I left the building.
