Review Topic: K1 Visa

Yui had her appointment scheduled for 0700 and arrived at around 0630. Many people had already arrived and were waiting to be admitted as early as 0530am.

She was admitted into the waiting area and her interview was around 0830 as there were others in front of her that took some time. Likely due to not being ready or not having paperwork in order.

She spoke to a few people, and they had been turned away and sent to go get more documents. One couple had waited for 2 years already for K1, the petitioner was actually there but of course was not allowed to enter.

They turned them away as he did not have his previous marriage divorce decree and had used an agency which was not cheap. So advice here is use this forum and ask questions.

When Yui went into her interview, the officer was very polite. She was very happy that we had all our information arranged and labeled and quckly reviewed the documents. Yui mentioned she made comments like , oh, wow, oh these photos are nice, and then asked three questions.

What is his name
where does he work and what is his position
when do you plan to get married

That was it; the interview took less than 15 minutes, and the officer said, Congratulations, your visa is approved.

So my advice is, use an agent or lawyer if you feel it is necessary, but I have found that the knowlege and support here is immense and does not require external parties other than to help you get through translating documents, making copies, medical exam and vaccinations of course, but otherwise...just be organized, ask lots of questions and leverage the experience.

She said it was sad to see others be turned away after waiting so long (we have waited 10 months) and not being prepared.
