My bothers went through their visa interview (U.S. family-based immigrant visa for unmarried adult children) recently at the American Consulate in Yerevan. The experience was overall positive. The only surprise was that the mandatory document list available on the USCIS site differed somewhat from the document list that Yerevan Consulate emailed them prior to the interview. Specifically, the USCIS site does not call for (1) non-marriage certificates (certificate from the local civil acts registry stating that the applicant is not married) and (2) military book even if the applicant never served in the military. Yerevan Consulate requested these documents anyway and we had to provide them.
The general wait times were as follows:
1. July 2016 - My mom applied for my brothers' visas.
2. October 2022 - NVC sent notices asking to upload all required documentation to CEAC. All the required documentation was uploaded to CEAC by December 2022.
2. April 2024 - switched from F1visa category to F2B category since the processing times for F1 visa were much slower that year than for F2B type.
3. March 2025 - received notice from NVC stating we would be hearing from the embassy about the interview date in the following 60 days.
4. April 2025 - received interview date and were given one month to update and submit required documents.
5. Interview was held on May 5th, 2025 and visas were issued within approximately 10 business days.
Hope these details help other folks who are currently going through this lengthy and complex process. Good luck to all!
