My husband and I went for my Green Card interview on August 7th 2008, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our appointment was for 0830am at Seattle, WA. We arrived at 0745am, and had no problem getting through security and to the interview waiting area. As the time approached I was getting a little nervous, but believe it or not, ten minutes before our interview time the fire alarms went off and the whole building had to be evacuated. Waiting outside with everyone relaxed me as we couldn't believe this was happening and people could only laugh about it. As the alarms stopped we were allowed back into the building, and by the time we went through security again we heard our names being called so we had to run up the stairs making sure we didn't miss our appointment. As soon as we met the women who would be interviewing us, we were immediately comforted as she was so pleasant and funny. We sat down in her office and she asked for our passports. She said she had read our story the evening before and was excited to meet us. She asked us about meeting at University and how our wedding in Las Vegas was; she had been there many times herself so she was talking more about what she had done there than us. I had over prepared for the interview, bringing all kinds of evidence (photo’s, cards, emails, letters, bills, bank statements etc), and all she really asked to see was our wedding photo’s. She looked through them excitingly recognizing places we had been. The only other piece of paperwork she asked to see was our most recent tax return to make sure my husband was earning enough to support me for us not to have a sponsor. Everything was fine in that department. The whole interview was very relaxed, laughing and telling stories of our travels. I would say the whole interview lasted no longer than 15 minutes. At the end of the interview she said she had already decided the night before that we were a genuinely married couple and that she was going to grant me my Green Card; she was just happy to meet us in person. As I came to the US under the Visa Waiver Program (tourist) I was nervous about any questions involving that, but that didn’t even come up. From day one of submitting our paperwork we haven’t ran into any problems and we just feel blessed to be in this position. I’ll be receiving my Green Card in the mail soon, and it will feel so good to finally have it in my hand.
