Review Topic: K1 Visa

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share our K1 visa experience at the US Embassy in Jakarta. Hope this could help others taking the same journey as us.

US Embassy: Jakarta, Indonesia
NOA1: 25 Feb 2021
NOA2: 18 Jan 2022
NVC Left: 15 Feb 2022
Embassy Received: 23 Feb 2022
Packet 3 Received: 24 Feb 2022
Medical Check Up: 21 March 2022
Visa Interview: 07 April 2022
Passport & K1 Visa Arrived: 13 April 2022

One thing we’d recommend is that once you get your NOA2, you should start gathering all the documents needed for the interview. We made the mistake of waiting until receiving our Packet 3 information, which kind of delayed our case a bit. Specifically, you should try to get any police certificates from abroad as soon as possible.

Thankfully the interview wasn’t as intimidating was we thought. The interviewer was very friendly and conversational. Surprisingly it was not in a closed room, but out in the open at a table counter like a ticketing booth. There were also lots of people queuing but it seemed most of them were there for tourist visas. Below were the interview questions asked:
1. Have you lived in other country before? For how long?
2. How old are you? How old is your fiance?
3. What is his job?
4. How did you meet?
5. How did he propose you?
6. Does he have any siblings? What are their names?
7. When the 1st time did you meet him? Where?
8. Has he met your family?
9. What is his address?
10. Where is he from?
11. Does he live with anyone else?
12. How is your wedding plan gonna look like?
13. What does he do for fun?
14. Do you know how much is his salary?
15. Do you know what the orange paper is about? Tell me abt it!
(Note: you should be given an orange paper prior to the interview. Just read it over and understand what it’s about.)

The guy then went to the backroom and came back with a white paper which said approved. Then that was it for the interview. Thankfully the passport and visa processing time was very fast. We used the RPX courier service in Surabaya and could receive all the documents in about 4 business days.

Thank God we got the K1 visa now after a 14 month waiting time! We’re very thankful too for the Visa Journey community, everyone sharing their experiences and answering each others’ questions. It really helped us a lot during this long and complicated process.
