Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

After (almost) two long years since we filled it was our turn to go to the field office to adjust my status.

We have been married for over two years and have a solid and loving relationship.

We entered the building 15 minutes prior to our interview. It seems like those are their current covid restrictions. They checked us in - we presented our interview notice along with state IDs. We walked upstairs, which is a huge waiting room and waited for our turn. There were about 10-15 parties. Officers were calling people in from all over the room. After more than an hour it was our turn.

We got a very nice young lady, who explained the whole interview to us. She swore us in and then started reviewing my I-485. We made some corrections to my work history and our address. She went over the yes/no questions. I admitted working without an authorization years ago (it was a matter of couple of weeks). She asked me some details about it and then moved on. Then I signed the form.

Then she asked us to talk about our relationship. It was quite enjoyable and we laughed with her and relived our wonderful years together. Two years later we now have a son and talked about him a lot.

No trick questions. It was really relaxed. Then she looked at our evidence and pictures. Then she told us she had no questions. She still had to review my medical, which I brought to the interview. But at the same time she said that based on the interview she is able to approve me for a ten year GC and that I’ll be eligible to apply for a citizenship in 3 years if Inchoose to do that.

We cried happy tears. It was a long awaited moment. My status changed the very same night and after 723 days I can close this chapter
