I arrived at 9:00 for a 9:30 appointment, and was told by security to return in 15 minutes. At 9:15, I was let in and went through security. Just like at an airport, I had to take my shoes off.
I was told to sit and wait to be called to the first window, which took about 10 minutes.
When they called me up, they asked for my birth certificate, police certificate, marriage certificate, financial documents (I gave the affidavit of support and tax return my wife submitted to the NVC), DS-260 confirmation page, courier registration, my passport and 2 passport pictures. She looked over the papers, scanned some stuff and put them in a folder. When she was done with my paperwork, she took my fingerprints. After this, she then told me to take a seat and wait for my name to be called.
About 45-50 minutes later, I was called up to the second window where I had to take an oath stating that all I submitted and everything I will answer is the truth.
After which, the lady started going through my papers in the folder and typing it into the computer. Eventually, she asked me how I met my wife, how long we knew each other before we first met in person, where I'll be living after I move, and finally asked me what I'm going to do once I move (study or find work). The whole interview felt natural and not at all like an interrogation.
I answered all the questions truthfully (duh) and then the lady said "alright you're all good to go, here are your original documents back. You should receive your passport with a visa in about 2-3 weeks". I asked her if I still needed to pay any fees, but she said "nope, you paid those a long while ago!". So I thanked her and left the consulate.
Overall, it was a great experience and everybody there was very welcoming. The interview itself did not take as long as expected, though I did have to wait a while. I was in and out in just a little over an hour.
