I applied for an immigration visa in April 2019. I have been married to a u.s citizen for 22 years. Due to the pandemic my interview at the Montreal Consulate was delayed. On November 16th 2020 I was visiting my family in the u.s when I was notified of my interview in Montreal on December 9th. On November 19th I traveled to Montreal and because of Covid I began isolating in a nearby hotel. I had a medical appointment scheduled for December 1st. The day before my medical a nurse called me and told me that I could not attend the medical as I had not been in Canada for more than 14 days. I told her it had been 12 days and I had no symptoms but they refused and rescheduled my medical for December 8th. One day before my interview. I thought that was ridiculous but what could I do. So now I knew that my results would not make it in time for the interview.
On December 9th I attended the Consulate for my interview. They asked for only 3 documents. My birth certificate. My marriage certificate and criminal record check. Nothing more.
My interview was a joke. The consular officer was nice and saw that I had been married for 22 years. It was a 30 second informal conversation. She said welcome to the u.s but because they had not yet received my medical they had to refuse me pending the results. She kept my passport and said once they get the medical they will send all my approved documents back to me in Winnipeg. I asked her how long it would take as I wanted to join my family for the holidays. She said it would be a couple of weeks. So without my passport I returned to Winnipeg on December 10th.
A week later I learned that my medical results were electronically sent to the Consulate on December 9th the same day as my interview so they had everything they needed to approve and send my documents.
It is now January 18TH and I am still waiting for my documents. I missed Christmas and my son's birthdays and I have been stuck in Canada for two months away from my family with no way to return for a visit as they have my passport.
There is absolutely no reason for this delay at this point. I did everything I had to do and now I am helpless to this ridiculous slow moving process.
I have emailed the Consulate several times and all they say my case is under further review and no timelines are given. Do they even care that people's lives are put on hold.
I am extremely frustrated and upset about this situation. I have no idea when I will be reunited with my family.
