UPDATE: As of September 26, 2020, we are still in a holding pattern. The consular officer told my fiancee at her February 4th interview that all they needed was a copy of her mother and father's marriage certificate and passport, and that she should receive them back in about a week from receipt at the Embassy. We never did hear anything back. Then the Covid shutdown came in the middle of March. Finally on July 2nd, came back a simple denial of the visa, with no explanation. We were both a little stunned because there's nothing in either of our backgrounds to justify this response. No health issues. No criminal background. No additional marriages, etc.
I learned that the Embassy kicks all paperwork back to one of the service centers for a final review, and that the service center can either confirm the embassy's decision or overturn their refusal, and approve my fiancee. How long does that take? The embassy's refusal came on July 2, 2020 and today is September 26, 2020. It's been almost 3 months, and we haven't heard anything. We first applied for the K1 visa on July 1, 2019, so this whole process has taken 15 months so far. I understand the virus has slowed down progress, but how long does it take to review the case and approve or deny? I wish I knew how much longer this is supposed to take.
