Hi Everyone! I wanted to update everyone on my experience on Friday, Nov 15th. - Approved Visa Status

I drove in from Toronto the night before and stayed at the Comfort In Suites. It was a 5-6 minute walk to the embassy and they offered free breakfast. My appointment was for 7:30am and I arrived at 7:15am. Please make sure you dress warm, in case they keep you waiting outside. They let us in 2 by 2 and I got in between 8:15am-8:30am-ish. Just like others have mentioned - you walk in, hand them your passport, they place a sticker at the back and hand it back to you as well as the laminated sheet with a number at the top. I was #8. The order of documents if I recall correctly is:

-Laminated Sheet
-Passport
-Passport Pictures
-Medical Report
-Original Birth Certificate
-Original Marriage Certificate
-AOS (I-846)
-Most recent taxes

They direct you to the first floor, there is a waiting area as well as a long counter to sort out your documents if you need to. You sit down and wait for your number to be called. When my number was called, I walked up to the window with my documents and handed my documents one by one as they were asked for. Although they requested a photo copy for each of the civil documents, the only photo copy they kept was the most recent tax document. As she reviewed my documents she asked me the following questions:

-Who is the petitioner?
-Can you confirm your date of marriage?
-What is your address?
-What is your spouse's address?

As you all know I was really concerned with Police Certificate document ( I have the non-certified one) I had requested the "other" one but it didn't come in the mail in time, but I took the email that the RCMP had sent me (upon request) stating that my police certificate was on the way and it was the one they were seeking. I handed it to her along with my non-certified PCC, but she returned it back to me. They also take your finger prints while they are requesting your documents and asking questions. She handed me a pamphlet and asked me to have a seat until I was called for my interview. I probably waited for about 40 mins to be called for my interview. Now, my scenario ended up being different than what I expected due to the fact I used live in the US as a dependent on my parents on their E-2 visa and then an international student. My interview questions were based around that.

-What was your longest stay in the US?
-Can you confirm your date of marriage?
-How long did you live there under that status?
-You have SSN in the system XXX.....sounds right?

I honestly believe that's what saved me with the PCC ordeal. I was confident in my entire case except for that one document, but I think because I previously lived in the US and did university there, that's why they didn't care too much about it.

After the questions, he said "Ok, you're visa is approved" and he handed my letter.

Funny thing though, the interviewer handed me back my passport along with my welcome to US letter. I was so happy it was over with, I just left! I got back to my hotel to read the letter again about how they will send my passport...but then realized my passport was in my hand! I had to walk back to the embassy to return it. I told them, " I think you need this!" Lol. The guy apologized that it was his mistake and took my passport back and said it would be mailed. Make sure they keep your passport if you are approved!

I took all the documents they requested on their sheet as well as photocopies, as you all will also do. I also took extra supporting documents (proof of bona-fide marriage, 2017 taxes, proof of my employment here, etc). Best to be over prepared. You never know what they will ask for. I expected them to ask more questions about my marriage, relationship but it was nothing like that.

Sorry for the long paragraph! Hope this helps everyone. Best of luck!
