Review Topic: K1 Visa

I am Emily's fiancé. She did not attend the interview with me and that wasn’t a problem. Most were without their S.O.

My interview was scheduled for 09:40 and I arrived around 8:20-8:30. There is a big line outside (most are there for tourist visa), so find a worker and say you have a K1 visa interview. They will let you in right away.

The k1 interviews are on the second floor where you are instructed how to organize your documents. The required documents are on the consulate website. You no longer need two pictures however, you will need to bring a copy of your fiancés passport.

You will also be required to fill out a form with your personal info and your fiancé’s (phone #, address, email) and the address of where you are staying in Rio. I say this because you can’t bring your phone in and some people that day didn’t know exactly their fiancés address and phone # etc.

Once your documents have been checked you sit and wait for your interview. That’s the longest part. They call by name and the interviews aren’t done in a closed room so you can hear others' interview. Most went really quickly, they were asked only a few questions then given their verbal approval. Only some were asked to provide more proof of relationship or other documents.

My interview was in portuguese. They asked me:
- When did we meet. (She was looking for a specific date D/M/Y)
- If we started dating the same year
- How many times have we visited each other. Again, she just wanted a number.
- When did we decide to get married.

I had to go to my interview with a pending medical, waiting for additional results which won't be ready until August. They didn't have an issue with this. Gave me verbal approval. We are in admin processing until results are provided.
