Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
We arrived early and were literally the first ones in line when the embassy opened. Our documents were checked twice; they did require a copy of my (US citizen fiance) 2018 taxes which luckily I brought along. They looked at my US birth certificate but then said I didn't need it and handed it back. I was allowed to approach the interview window with my fiance. The interview was extremely thorough, even though we had tons of relationship evidence (been together since 2015 and lived together since 2017). They asked my fiancé all types of very detailed questions about my job, my parents, etc. Basically every question that you see on any "K1 interview question" list, they asked. Of course, my fiance could answer them all with no problem, but I think those questions could be challenging for a couple that hasn't been together as long. By the end of the interview, the official was joking around with my fiance, talking about places he had to go visit in the US. Naturally, we thought we were going to be approved at the interview. At the end of the interview, however, the official asked my fiance to pass me the phone so he could speak to me. He informed me that he couldn't approve the visa at that time, because our co-sponsor had filled out an I-134 form instead of a I-864 form. I couldn't believe this as I had done a ton of research about this process and couldn't believe I'd made a mistake about which form was necessary for the co-sponsor to fill out. I was devastated and began to cry, thinking that the visa would be denied. The official was nice enough to tell me there was no need to worry or cry, and that we could simply e-mail the I-864 form to the embassy and that after he had received that document, the visa would likely be approved. They kept my fiance's passport. We e-mailed the document that same day and the embassy confirmed that it was received the next day. After that, it was the longest 2 weeks of waiting and worrying before we were notified the visa had been issued! My fiance was able to pick it up a few days later.
