I had my interview today at 8 am. I showed up at about 7:15 and was the 8th person in line - I recommend trying to be there earlier. I attempted to be there for 7, but managed to take a wrong turn on my walk over. The earlier you are, the quicker you move through! I was there a total of 2 hours but the first couple in line was only there about 45 minutes.
Make sure to read the security rules for the building, many people were turned away this morning due to backpacks and large bags.
Things I brought with me were - all my paperwork organized in a clear organizer, a book to read and ID and car keys. The car keys were not permitted as they had the lock fob on it - I needed to store them with the personel downstairs. They gave me a ticket with a number and held on to them until I was ready to leave.
Once upstairs, you get a chance to organize your paperwork based on the list they give you.
1. The form they provide
2. Passport
3. 2 photos
4. Medical
5. Long Form Birth Certificate
6. Marriage Certificate
7. RCMP Criminal Check
8. Original Signed AOS Form
9. Tax Transcripts + W2 (mine from 2017)
**I only had to provide the tax transcript we submitted to NVC and the W2 for that year as well. I was over prepared with the extension paperwork for 2018, and tax transcripts for 2016 as well as 2015 - but they were not needed**
I waited an hour before I was called to the first window, which is document check and fingerprinting. It took about 10 minutes to go over everything with the immigration officer.
It was another hour before I was called to the interview window. I took the oath, answered some questions and then was informed I was approved! That whole process was about 5 minutes.
Questions asked were -
How did you meet your husband?
When did you get married?
Have you ever been convicted of a crime in Canada or elsewhere?
What is the longest you've stayed in the US?
Have you ever lived outside of Canada after the age of 16 for more than one year?
Have you traveled to any countries in the last 5 years, if so, where?
Overall very positive experience.
