Had my interview on Feb 12, 2019 at 7:30 am. There will be multiple people with the same interview time so don't be alarmed. My husband and i ended up driving into Montreal from Toronto the night before and stayed at a close by hotel (AC Marriott) approx. 5 min walking distance from the consulate. The morning of the interview i arrived at the consulate around 7:00 am. It was quite cold and no point in waiting outside longer than 30 mins. My advice would be to arrive 30 mins before, stand at the left side of the entrance doors. The doors will open at exactly 7:30 am when the officer places a board of what not to bring into the building.
Once you are lined up they will call you into the building one by one where you will be asked for your passport for interview time verification. You will get your passport back instantly with a sticker placed on the back of it and a laminated paper with your interview number and a list of requirements on how to organize your documents to be presented. I had number 1 since i was the first person in line that morning. From here you have to clear security check where you place your jacket and all items into a scanner. After finishing this you will be guided to a door that leads you into the basement (down a flight of stairs) where there will be a room full of empty chairs and an elevator door. Once everyone has entered that area you will be asked to get into the elevator which will then take you up to the 19th floor where the interview will be held.
On the 19th floor once you get out of the elevator you are asked to sit in a waiting area with a bunch of empty chairs. You can use this time to organize your documents prior to seeing the first officer for document verification. I had been called around 7:50 am to the window where i presented all of my documents that were required and provided fingerprints. I wasn't asked to show any of my husbands documents: ex. birth certificate or proof of residency in the United states other than the most recent W2 tax return. I also had 3 different copies of my police certificates due to numerous changes that happened since September 2018. They accepted all three (normal check, Privacy act check, and Finger print for visa/boarder crossing check). Here i was also able to tell the officer about a Bio-data mismatch that had occurred on my DS-260 form with an incorrect date of birth. The officer was very kind and was able to change that error.
Once i finished with the first officer around 8:10 i was asked to sit back down on the chairs. I waited another 20 minutes before i was called again to another window to a second officer. This was where the actual interview took place. The officer here was also very nice and started by asking me to take an oath to ensure i was telling the truth. This was a very quick and breezy interview which involved questions like:
1. Tell me about yourself
2. How did you and your spouse meet?
3. What do you do for work?
4. Do you plan to work once you are in the United States?
5. What was your longest visit to the united states?
Once i answered these questions the officer congratulated me and handed me a paper stating welcome to the united states. I was also given a paper to track my passport which they had taken during the interview to insert the visa. I will end up getting this passport back within the next week or two.
I was out of the consulate after completing everything by 8:50 am!
Hope this is helpful for anyone with upcoming interviews. Nothing to be nervous about, everyone at the consulate is super nice and helpful!
