Review Topic: K1 Visa

After reading the other reviews of the London Embassy mentioning that it was the easiest part of the whole K1 Visa process, we honestly didn't believe it. But that was our experience. (FYI I am the petitioner and my fiancee is the beneficiary)

The interview was scheduled for Oct 10th at 10:30am. We went up to the outside desk at 10am. They checked our DS160 and both our passports, wrote on it and then we went into the quick security check. They directed us through and we went inside. There were various lines for different reasons but it was not busy and maybe only a few other people in the reception area. The woman behind the counter took the DS160 and placed a sticker with a number on it and gave it back. She gave us directions which I had to ask her to repeat because we were a bit nervous and didn't pay attention. She repeated for us to go up to a certain floor number and take two lefts. We went to the elevator and when we got to the floor the woman in the reception area was directing everyone to the right (there were tons of people in this area). We checked with her as we were given different directions downstairs and she verified that we should take the two lefts. When we went around the corner, we saw a smaller room with fewer people and seats and a screen displaying the numbers that were being called up to the windows.

We didn't sit down for long until our number showed on the screen and my fiancee went to window #20 with a man behind it. I stood up just to watch and make sure everything was okay as my fiancee is very shy and this whole process was very nerve-wracking. He saw me standing there and called me up also. He asked the following questions (he said "you" but I'll change it to beneficiary and petitioner for clarification):

Have you completed the medical yet? Yes.
Are they awaiting more information? Yes, we have done what they asked. He said that was good, as long as we're on top of it.
Has the beneficiary ever been married? No.
Has the beneficiary ever been in the military? No.
Has the beneficiary ever changed your name via a deed poll? No.
Was the beneficiary adopted? No.
How long had the petitioner been there and did I come to England for this process? Yes, I did.
When were we planning to go back? As soon as the processing is complete.

He asked for the appointment letter, the police certificate, birth certificate, affidavit of support and additional evidence of support. I had prepared various documents and had worried about this a bit but in the end he only wanted one previous years' worth of my tax transcript. After that, he let us sit down again and wait for our number to be called again.

We sat down and not long later the number flashed on the screen again. My fiancee went up to a different window #21 alone, where she was asked to complete an oath that everything she says is true. She asked the following questions:

Have you completed the medical yet?
Where did you meet?
When did you meet?
Where does your fiancee live?
Have you ever been to the US?
Does your fiancee have a house, apt, etc?

She returned some documents back to my fiancee and stamped something behind the window and told her that the visa would be issued within 1-2 weeks (pending the medical results coming back).

We couldn't believe that the process was that quick and simple. We were done and back outside the building in under 30 minutes.

The embassy interview was the easy part, we just wish we would have known how much trouble the GP was going to cause us getting the information back to Knightsbridge. Thankfully, we see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
