Review Topic: K1 Visa

Ok so I had my interview on the 9th of October 2018 at the London consulate. I am from Belfast in Northern Ireland and because Northern Ireland is apart of the UK and the US Consulate in Belfast doesn't process the K1 visa I had to do my medical and interview in London. So I flew in and out in the same day, got taxis to and from.

Consulate was in a nice area of London, was also a nice day, I got there a little late but they say they hold your appointment for 30 mins after your time. My apointment was booked for 11:30am and I arrived at the embassy at 11:45 (Wasn't my fault, traffic was ridiculous and taxi was 30 mins late picking me up, my nerves were through the roof at this point and I could have passed out any second.) went to the door to go in and there was a line of people, we all had our DS-160s checked and were let into the first building which is basically just aiport security. Went through I had my phone and all my doccuments buut no laptop with me so can't give advice on that unfortunately, left that building through the other side and walked up a small hill type pathway thing to the actual embassy. Go in the front door, straight to reception type desk and handed over my DS-160 again, she put a sticker type thing on it with a number and then told me to take the elevator up to level 1 and take two lefts once I got out, this is where K visas are dealt with I'm assuming as all the other people were told to just go straight on at the elevator and I was the last one for K1s that morning.

So I went where she told me and there were a couple windows with screens above them just like at airports where they show the gates only these had the numbers from peoples stickers on their DS-160s and interview stalls to go to. I waited in the seating area where for about 10 mins and I was called up to a window. I was absolutely dying with anxiety and nerves, I could hardly speak and was shaking like a leaf, I did not look good. The guy asked me for my pictures and originals like police certificate and birth certificate. I wasn't sure about evidence of support and he said just the affidavit and tax return was fine. I couldnt find my pictures and was searching through my file for a couple minutes which had me almost have a major panic attack and when I did finally get them I was so relieved I almost swore but stopped myself lol, im a wreck I know. He scanned everything I think and gave them back to me, he then asked me a couple simple questions like had I ever lived in the republic of ireland and i think he asked me something like where in the us was i staying but this wasn't the interview and he didnt seem like this was a pressing question so I am assuming he was just chatting as he was very cheerful af friendly. he then asked me to do the finger print thing with your thumb and then 4 fingers for both hands, then gave me my medical xray back and told me to sit down and someone else would call me at another window.

I went and sat back down and waited, the first guy got up and went to do something behind the screens so he was gone and it was just me sitting in the waiting area with not a sign of anyone else, I waited for about 5 mins and my number popped up on the screen and I went to the window it told me to go to. It was a lady this time and she seemed less cheerful and more lifeless and bored than the first guy. I can't remember if she asked me for any forms, but you'd be nuts to go to anything without everything you have. She asked me a couple questions;
1. How did I meet my fiance
2. Where will I be staying with him
3. Does he have a house or apartment
4. What state does he live in
5. (Might not have asked this, I could just be imagining it) Have I met his parents

Once I answered these she was typing away at her computer for a bit while I stood there and suddenly said in the most no big deal way ever "your visa is aproved and you should get it in 1-2 weeks"
I asked her "its approved? and ill have it in 1-2 weeks??" and she goes yea
Like WHATTT??!! I said to her ok thats great is that it? and she goes sure have a nice day.
Walked away to exit the embassy smilling like an idiot. I was there about 20 mins in total. I didnt even know I was doing the interview when it happened, I had built it up in my head so much and was such a wreck untill she said it was approved. Please please try your best to stop yourself going insane with worry and nerves, it was so easy I could hardly believe it.

I hope this helps anyone who is freaking out like I was! It really isnt as bad as you think it will be! Bring all your stuff and be as prepared as you can and nothing can go wrong. Good luck to everyone!!
