We had the appointment at 10:30am. They recommend you arrive 15min early. We arrived around 10:10am and approached the security checkpoint around as we noticed others going in. There weren't many people wanting to go in. It was probably because of the time of the interview. I decided to attend the interview with my fiancée against the advice in previous reviews saying they would not let you in. This is true because as we approached the security check point, I was told that only my fiancée was allowed to enter. I explained that I was the petitioner and wanted to accompany her. They still said no. Still I'm glad I went as I will later explain. At this point she gave me her purse as they would not let her in with it. I stayed outside waiting.
At around 12pm one of the assistants who makes sure all the paperwork is in line with what is needed came out calling my name. She then informed me that I was being called in as they wanted to interview me as well. At this time she also told me that I could not go in with the purse I was holding for my fiancée. The security guards outside would not hold it for me and told me that there are people outside who will hold on to your things for a small fee. There was nobody at that time and I had no idea what to do,and they were waiting for me to go in. After seeing me walking around asking for someone to hold my stuff, they guards instructed me to go ahead. I went in and the security guards gave me a number and held the purse. I walked into the waiting area. There very few people left. My fiancée was there and pointed at the consular officer in one of the windows.
The officer called us over. By this point my fiancée had already gone through the second interview but I was unaware of this. The officer asked me what language I was more comfortable with. I said English to which he asked what language my fiancée and I communicate in. I said Spanish but felt conducting the interview in English. He then looked over the paperwork and asked me to meet him in a separate booth to continue the interview. This booth 1 was actually in an enclosed room as opposed to the rest which were out in the open. He started by asking how we met. He asked how old we both were, approximate dates. How many times i had visited my fiancée and the dates. Whether my fiancée had met my kids (I'm divorced) and do they communicate given the language difference English /Spanish. He asked me what kind of wedding small or big and if had already made arrangements. I told him the date and he questioned why. The whole thing lasted about 20 min. Lots of question. The entire time the officer acted as if he did not know anything. Come to find out he had already asked my fiancée very similar questions sometimes multiple times in a different way. Don't get me wrong, he was very kind and pleasant. My fiancée told me she spent about 30min standing by the window talking to him before I was called in. He asked het 4 times where I was. I had given my fiancée my passport as proof that I was there with intention to attend the interview. It was a bit stressful as most interviews last about 5 minutes with only a few questions. We were once again called to the window and the officer asked her more questions about the wedding and if there were any arrests she may want to mentioned to which she said no and we both had a laugh about it. He asked me for a copy of my divorce decree as she had only handed in hers. My fiancée has 2 children and then officer asked where they were. I told him we had not brought them with us because I had emailed the consulate ahead of time and was told that children under 14yrs of age were not required to attend. At first he said they needed to be there, but then he went in the back and came back after 2 min and said it was ok that they did not need to be there. He looked over the paperwork. Handed us a blue paper and said congratulations, all 3 visas were approved. 10 working days to get the passports back.
