Good experience at the embassy yesterday and our visa is approved just pending medical results which should arrive today or tomorrow.
A few points worth noting:
I got in the queue at 0900 (as per the instructions for a 0930 appt) and the lady told me that for a K type visa I only needed to be there 15 mins before so told me to come back which was easy enough.
There is a small Australian(?) coffee shop near to the Waitrose that I went to for (really great) coffee. They seemed to be happy to hold peoples laptops etc for a fee of £10 a day, multiple people did this during the 10 or so minutes I was there so I imagine it gets full up quickly and is best used only for emergencies. Plan to not bring big bags/laptops to the embassy if at all possible because you cant take them in.
Interview wise everything was good, a pretty simple process. The gentleman taking docs was really nice and appeared to have a trainee shadowing him who he was explaining the process to as he went along. Gave all the listed documents, when he asked for the affidavit of support I was also asked for my fiance's most recent payslip (I actually accidentally gave the last three because they were stapled together), took fingerprints etc then sat back down.
Called to another window 20 mins later in the same area, a different guy this time (plus trainee) again, really nice. Did the oath and retook some fingerprints. Asked a few questions and when he said "how did you meet?" I went into a little detail and he just said "so at work then?" haha I guess i waffle when I feel pressured. Then he said my visa would be processed once they received my medical and be back to be within a couple of weeks.
All in all, it was a good experience and if anything I agree with peoples feelings of "is that it?" after all the build-up and waiting I definitely left feeling like I had missed something. I still don't think it has sunk it that it is finally happening.
