Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Was nervous on my way to the consulate, but as soon as I got there and noticed how nice everyone was, that feeling quickly passed.

Waited outside for three or four minutes (be sure to stand in the right line, not the left one for "non-immigrant visas"!), passed security, checked in and was told to go to a window at the very end of the hall to pay my visa fee.
The gentleman there was very friendly and made a few jokes, which also helped the mood of everyone there also awaiting their interviews.

After paying the fee and waiting for about five minutes, I was called to another window where an officer went through my submitted documents with me to check if everything is correct. I had a couple of questions, and he was so kind to ask a colleague for me.

Then waited for another short period of time, perhaps fifteen minutes, before my interview started. Like others have said on VisaJourney before, it felt more like a very direct conversation rather than an interrogation, and the consular officer was friendly and empathic throughout the whole thing.

My questions were:
1. How did you meet your husband?
2. What was he doing in Germany?
3. Who proposed to whom?

The interview lasted five, maximum ten minutes. I probably spent a little over an hour at the consulate.
