I had my interview at the Consulate in Montreal this morning. My interview time was 9:00 am. I arrived at 8:30 and was asked if I wouldn’t mind waiting 15 minutes outside. I was summoned inside 10 mins later and gave my passport to the person at the entrance. She gave me a laminated form with a number and instructions on what documents to gather and how to order them. I was then told to go through security. After security, I was told to walk downstairs and take the elevator to the 19th floor. Once there, I had a seat and waited to be called. A gentleman came out of a back room and went to each person in order of their numbers to check them in.
I was called up to the first window about 30 mins later and I was asked for the documents in exactly the same order as the form indicated. I was asked for fingerprints from both hands and I was told to sit back down and wait to be called again.
About 30 mins later I was called to another window for the actual interview. The consular official opened by saying everything looked good and she asked me a few very basic questions. I brought an AOS from a joint sponsor that was not submitted to the NVC so she took a copy of that. I then got the coveted blue slip and instructions on how to track my passport and visa.
As people have said, the process was painless and everyone was very pleasant. The interview felt like a casual conversation and the agent even made some jokes. It really was the easiest part of the whole visa journey. I was very nervous for the interview but I now realize there was no reason to worry.
