My appointment was for 7:30 am. My fiance and I arrived at the Embassy by 7:15. We were the first people in line. The security guard opened the doors around 7:32 and asked what we were there for. At that time, there was only one other couple behind us, also there for their K-1 visa. Once inside, there were two more guards that are like the TSA: Put everything in the bins and have your belongings scanned. Once everything was looked over, they took our phones and gave us a ticket to collect them upon exit. We were then sent downstairs to wait. Several people were waiting when a security guard started to send people up individually. Note: The guard did NOT call people up in the order that they arrived. Sit closest to the stairs that you go down as that was where the guard started calling on people. You go back upstairs, back out to the foyer, and give your passport to an agent behind a podium. She printed out a sticker, placed it on the back of my passport, handed me a list that indicates the order documents should be placed in, and told us to go back downstairs. Once downstairs, we were in line again to get on the elevator. It takes you to the 19th floor where there is a waiting room. You get some time to put your documents in order (the list indicates that if the documents are not in the correct order, they will send you back to the waiting room to get your documents in order and it will affect your processing time). I won't give the order of docs as it may be different for each applicant (ie some people may have additional marriage docs, divorce docs, etc). I can confirm that this list specifically asks for the LONG FORM birth certificate, even though I don't recall previous instructions requesting the long form version (I only got the long form birth certificate as I had read on Visa Journey that was required). The last item on the list indicated something like "petitioner's most recent income tax documents." I interpreted that as the most recent IRS tax doc (2017); however, the agent I spoke with also requested W2s and pay stubs. She also asked for a photocopy of my fiance's passport, but then said it wasn't a big deal if I didn't have one (I did have a photocopy as I had brought a copy of the original I-129F application with me). I probably waited about 15-20 minutes before being called up. The agent that I spoke with was nice. She did not request the documents in the order that the list tells you to arrange them. When it was time to take my fingerprints, I advised her that there was still some residue on the scanner from the last person (I could legit see the last persons fingerprints still on the glass). She handed me a cleaning wipe to clean it off. Took fingerprints of left hand, right hand, and then thumbs. I was then told to sit back down and wait to be called up by my number again. I was called up again in about 10 minutes. The agent was bright and cheerful and asked me to raise my right hand to take an oath. Once the oath was completed, she asked me when and how I met my fiance, when we became a couple, and why we decided to apply for the k1 now. She then asked what my fiance does for work, how often we see one another, and if we had any wedding plans. She made a bit of small talk and then smiled and said congratulations, I was approved. She passed me the coveted pink paper and reiterated that once I enter the US, we have 90 days to get married. Another white paper was passed to me which shows how you can track your visa application online, etc. I was done the interview by 8:20, we took the elevator down back to the main floor, collected our phones and we were on our way.
