This review is for K1 visa at the Vientiane Consulate.

We arrived a bit earlier than our scheduled appointment at 7:30am. There is a line outside you have to wait to get into through security so I recommend coming early. Once inside, we checked in and provided all of our requested documents. As we would later find out, this checkin time is so early because a lot of people were missing documents or needed to go back and get them, so it seemed as if they asked people to come early due to this reason alone. We ended up waiting until about 9:30am to start doing fingerprints, and we were the first interview to be called up at about 10:15am. Due to all the waiting, I highly recommend bringing a book or something to entertain yourself while waiting!

Me and my fiance came up to the window after his name was called together. The officer told us that I could stay but only my fiance could answer the questions. He also commented that he didn't get to conduct many interviews in English. That seemed to be a positive point! They asked a lot of date/timeline based questions. First question was where did you meet and when. My fiance actually was really nervous and said the wrong year dec 2017 instead of dec 2016! I had an outburst and told him 2016 and he corrected himself. The officer looked at me and told me if I spoke again I would have to sit down but he let me stay despite my mistake. After that initial question, he was asked how many times we've seen each other from Jan 2017 to June 2017, asked when he proposed, and asked what I did for a living. The officer was serious but he at the end commented that we were a very interesting couple given our story, me living in a US territory. Note that when interviewing and answering dates, he only asks for the month and year, so don't need to memorize exact dates like we did.

After that he stamped a piece of paper and gave us a white slip and told us to come back in exactly a week at 3pm for visa pickup! Aside from all the waiting around it went smoothly for pickup as well and we were so relieved.
