My interview was scheduled at 8:30 am in US embassy-Dhaka. I reached there at 7:30 am and already there is a long queue in front of the entrance. The guards cross-checked the interview letter with the passport, thoroughly checked the file folder i was carrying and asked me whether i have any electronic device with me or not. Bits of advice please DO NOT bring mobile phone with you and also don’t carry any sealed envelope. So after entering the embassy i had to go through a scanner and finally i entered into the outdoor waiting room. A Bangladeshi guy took the interview letter from me, cross-checked the name with their list and told me to separate my Passport, Birth Certificate (both Bangla & English version), Nikahnama (both Bangla & English version), Marriage Certificate and Police Clearance Certificate from other documents and sit; he also told me to give attention to the speaker as they will start calling the names in speaker soon. I waited in that room for almost one and a half hours and then finally they announced my name and told me to go to counter number 04. As i appeared there another Bangladeshi guy asked for those documents which they told me to separate earlier and gave me An unsealed packet containing my x-ray CD and Vaccination page and told me that i have to hand it over to the immigration officer at the Port of Entry in the USA. He also gave a paper describing the procedure about how to lift up the Conditional Residency status after two years since the duration of our marriage is less than two years and also gave the IMBRA leaflet and told me to wait as they are going to call me again for oath and final interview. After 30 minutes they announced my name again for taking the oath at Counter number 11 and told me to return to my seat for the final interview. Honestly i was a little bit of nervous at that time because there were some applicants who were pretty annoying and i was a bit worried as i can see that the patience of the visa officers were running thin. I was thinking whether it’s going to affect our case or not. I don’t want to give interview to an already pissed off visa officer.
So finally they announced my name for the final interview at 11:30 am at Counter Number 04 again. This time a mid-aged nice American woman was there with an interpreter. I presumed she is my visa officer and felt relieved because i didn’t see her earlier which means she just came to take the interview and my case was the first one of her day. She started saying that she did not take interview as she is a high ranked officer of the embassy but because some visa officer’s were on leave that day so she had to make up for them and also she could not speak Bangla so she already brought the interpreter with her. I said that i don’t need the interpreter and we can continue the interview in English. The first thing she said was, i suppose you have some picture to show me. In reply, i said i have lots of pictures (70 to be exact) to prove my relationship and i pass over the envelope to her which consists of the four wedding events picture and some of our casual pictures. She started to looking at them one by one meanwhile i told her that we also had our honeymoon at Cox’s Bazar and i have some photographs of our honeymoon too and pass my honeymoon photographs to her. She glanced at the photographs and returned them. Then she wanted to know whether it is an arranged marriage or loved ones. Later she asked me some common questions regarding my wife like; my wife’s present address, occupation, academic history and also asked about my academic history too. After that she wanted to know when I am planning to enter into the USA. Honestly I was a bit surprised; I did not expect this question because it’s totally depends upon the visa approval so I said as soon as possible it’s almost a year and a half since we live separated from each other and honestly to maintain a long distance relationship for that long is really hard so all I wanted to go to my wife as early as possible and start our life together. Then the Visa Officer said, “Yes, we understand. We will give you visa as quickly as we can. I think we are done today if you have any query please tell me” so I asked, are you going to keep my original documents and she replied that she will keep them for now and I’ll get those documents at the visa collection point. I replied, “Thank you and have a nice day” with a smile. I looked at the watch and its 12:00 pm.
I returned to my home and checked my CEAC status which is transferred from ‘Ready’ to ‘Administrative Processing’. I again checked the status at 3:30 pm and the status is now ‘Issued’ which means I was in AP for just three hours. Following morning which is on April 17th, 2018 I tracked my passport at US Travels website and it says ‘Passport has been received from consular section and is currently being processed for delivery’. Finally on April 18th 2018 at 10:00 am I received an email to collect my passport from VFS Global. I went there by 11:30 am and received my Passport with US visa, all original documents, extra documents which my wife sent to the NVC and a medium size yellow sealed envelope ‘To be opened only by a United States Immigration or Public Health Officer’ printed on top of it. That’s it I got the visa within just two days. That was really quick.
Honestly if your documents are all in order and up to date then you don’t need to worry a bit in this class of visa. Also the Visa Officer is really nice and all the embassy personnel are really professional.
So that’s my visa experience. Hope it will be helpful for every Bangladeshi people who are preparing to face the immigrant visa interview at US embassy-Dhaka.
