Everything was smooth and fine, especially with the massive help of visajourney. All the various time estimations were accurate, too (with one exception).
Also, a certain spouse immigration guide on here is helpful to a point, but is clearly outdated (wrong forms/etc).
Only real complaint is that we waited almost a year for the NVC to move our case forward and give us an interview date. Eventually, I decided to request our case be expedited (I only did not before this point because it says to provide a reason for the expedite request - and we did not have a "good" reason beyond being eager/impatient). At this point, we had an interview date in slightly over 2 weeks later.
I do not know what happened, but I *highly* recommend that anyone waiting for an interview date do these two things:
1) contact the NVC and ask if your case is complete
if yes, then
2) request that your case be expedited.
I would give this process a better rating, but the wait time (for an interview date) is an extreme outlier to the time it took everyone else (for Canada) in the past several years. Average is about 3 months. We waited 210 days - which would have been longer without a request to be expedited.
As for the interview at the embassy itself, that was a far better experience than either of us imagined or prepared for. We consider ourselves lucky. Top rating for that.
