I arrived for my 11:30 appointment at 11:00. I approached the blue tent with “visa services†at the top. There were no queues to be seen anywhere. I checked in with my confirmation letter and passport- the lady was very nice and told me to come back in 15 minutes and to go right through. Once you enter the building you put your belongings in a tray to be scanned- very much like an airport. Again everyone was lovely.
I hadn’t even sat down when they called my number. All paperwork (birth certificate, police certificates (and in my case, notarised translations), confirmation letter and proof of financial support (they took the I-134 and a tax return).
Then I sat back down and waited nervously. I was number I906 and they were already interviewing I905! In 5 minutes, if that, I was called up for my interview... nervous was an understatement!
However, the gentleman was lovely. Whilst I knew it was an interview it was very conversation like and my nerves melted away the more we spoke. We carried on nonchalantly chit chatting away when he said “oh, I’ve issues your visa by the way†almost as an afterthought! I told him I was going to cry and he said “you deserve it! You’re free, it’s over!†After double checking that was all I had to do ( I.e just leave) I did just that. I was in there for a grand total of 25 minutes!
But here’s a little timeline:
- Arrived at the visa tent for 11:00 and checked in
- Had a wander around Grosvenor Square
- Went through security at 11:15
- First window 11:20
- Sat down for 11:30
- Called for my interview at 11:35
- Out by 11:45!
They didn’t ask to see any proof of our relationship which was a bit annoying as I had printed off a load of photos the day before! However, I always knew I’d bring too much stuff but in cases like this I’d rather be over prepared than under.
All in all, I was very happy with how the day turned out! Lots of happy tears and phone calls. But very anticlimactic, nonetheless! I’d expected to be interrogated.
United States, here I come... 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
