Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview wasn’t scheduled for 12.30 and I was super early! I don’t live in London, so I was staying with an old friend who lives in Putney and got into Green Park station and walked about 15 minutes. Because I had a large bag, I had to find a place to keep it for the duration of the interview, as they don’t allow you to take large suitcases in. I went to Gould’s pharmacy down the road, and was charged £8 as I had a large bag and a laptop, as well.

Outside of the embassy, I saw a blue tent that said visas on it and approached the young girl behind the counter. I told her I was here for my k1 interview and my name. She asked me for my embassy letter and my passport, and told me to buzz at the security door. Here, they just want to make sure you don’t have any large weapons or anything on your person or your luggage and then I walked around the corner into the main building.

I approached the reception and repeated my reasons for being here and the young girl printed off a barcode with my immigrant number and stuck it to my embassy letter. She then asked me to go through the doors and take a seat and eat for your number to be called.

At this point, I had expected to be waiting for quite a while, but literally as I sat down my number popped up. I walked over to the cashier point and was greeted by a guy about the same age as me. He asked me for my embassy letter, birth certificate, police certificate, proof of courier for visa, and both copies of affadavit of support. He continually asked me if the information on my petition was correct, especially if I had ever been married before ( which I haven’t). He took my finger-prints which took ages as you REALLY have to press down hard, gave me my x-ray which I was really happy about as I had my medical only 8 days ago, and then told me to take a seat.

As my first waiting period was so short, and given the amount of reviews I had read online, I wasn’t sure how long to expect before I got called up again. Turned out it was near on 2 hours. It wasn’t too bad though, as this point you’ve handed over all the documentation and you’re quite sure you’ve done all you can do.

Finally, my number came up. I walked around the corner with my files into the additional cashier rooms and was greeted by an American man in his late 30s. He had my files out in front of him. He seemed friendly, and he listened to every answer I gave. He made me swear the oath, and then asked questions about me and my fiance. Mostly how we met, what she was doing in the Uk, and then bizarrely lots of questions about money and job opportunities, which didn’t really bother me. After some questions about my co-sponsor, it told me I had been Approved and that my visa should be with me in about 2 weeks. I was super happy and FaceTimed my fiancé straight away!

Woo-boo!
