Review Topic: K1 Visa

I attended the K1 visa interview w/ my Brazilian fiance in Rio. The whole process took us about 1.5 hours. After going through security we went upstairs to the immigration unit and were given a list of how they wanted our paperwork presented. Once our paperwork was in order, we waited in line with about 20 others, presented the paperwork to an agent at the window, and waited to be called for the interview. We were called about 30 minutes later.

Our interview lasted about 10 minutes. The consulate was actually born in my home town in the US! He asked me about my profession and how many times I visited Brazil. He asked my fiance how we met and started dating and why we didn't just get married in Canada where we met or in Brazil, if he was generally healthy and what were our plans for our wedding. That was it. We were told to come back at 3pm to pick up the visa and a sealed package of our paperwork that is to be presented upon entry into the US.

Advice: Make sure your ears are showing in your photographs!! A lot of women were delayed that day because they had to get their photos retaken from a vendor outside the embassy. So, make sure you follow all directions and have extra copies of your paperwork because you don't get it back.

Also, you have to pay Citibank the $100 interview fee and get a receipt. The Citibank is a short walk from the embassy. They do not accept US dollars unless you have a Citibank account.
