I interviewed on the 9th of March as a spouse of a citizen and I'm currently waiting for my passport from DHL. I found the consular to be polite, friendly and straight to the point. He asked two questions, i.e. 'do you currently have a job?' and 'what does you wife do?' and said everything was in order and my visa will be approved. I was told to wait for at least 2 weeks to pick up my visa at DHL.
Things to expect
1. If you're carrying a bag, leave it in your car, with someone you came with or at home. Same goes for your phone. You will not be allowed to enter with either. Not sure this was the same when I got my B2 in London.
2. Taxi drivers near the embassy, pretend to be experts on visa matters without introducing themselves as taxi drivers. They work with small business stalls that help with passport pictures and printing of documents. Do your research and be prepared before coming to the embassy.
3. Be patient and prepared to wait. Once you enter the consulate, you will be seated based on your petition or visa type and called randomly. Pay attention to the PA system.
4. The contracted consulate staff and security personnel are not friendly nor do they try to be. Follow their instructions and do not ask for favors. I witnessed several people try to plead for leniency about incomplete documents, bags etc. Just follow the rules and you'll be fine. You'll also not hold up the queue.
5. If you can, get a plastic folder with pockets and arrange all your documents, pictures and other items neatly.
