Like every other review I have read about the interview day, my experience was very straightforward, and everyone who I had to deal with on the day was professional, courteous, helpful and friendly.
Still, like presumably everyone who has the interview, despite reading assuring posts, you will be nervous. Let's face it, it's the BIGGEST day of your relationship so far.
I arrived at 10.30 for my 12.00 appointment. There was no queue outside. The woman at the desk outside told me they weren't seeing cases until 11.30 and suggested I went for a walk or a coffee. There's a Starbucks about 2 mins walk away so I went there. I returned 15 minutes later and stood behind 2 other people.
After having my appointment letter and passport checked I was told to queue for the security check. This is just like airport security and didn't take more than 3 minutes to get through.
I walked round to the entrance and was given my number at reception desk and directed upstairs to the main hall. My number was I 904. As it turned out, I 902 never showed even though they called the number a few times, so I hope they made it!
After about 5 minutes I went to the first desk and was greeted by a very friendly woman who asked for the medical papers, my Birth Certificate and proof of Corey's income. I provided a letter from his employer, to which she said "it doesn't say if the job is permanent" but she was polite and friendly and put me at ease. When I provided my mobile number I accidentally started giving her my work mobile. She just said "breathe, relax, it's going to be fine", which was nice of her.
I then sat back down and waited another 10 minutes. As soon as 11.30 came around, sure enough, I 901 was called to the window round the side. I followed next, presumably my paperwork had been sorted through faster than others in line. As everyone else has said, ignore the long queue you will see when you turn the corner. These people are in a separate line and not queuing for your window.
I was greeted by a man who was polite and professional. He asked me to raise my right hand and swear I was about to tell the truth. He then asked:
Where did you meet?
Have you met in person?
How many times?
Have I met Corey's family?
Has he met yours?
Where did Corey work prior to his current job? This last one threw me a little as, although we had spoken about prior jobs, I hadn't really logged the chronology in my head, so I just said I knew which jobs he had held but not the precise order and reeled them off.
The man then said "i'm going to go ahead and approve your application. You will receive notification of delivery of the visa in a couple of weeks"
It was an amazing feeling, and I went outside and immediately called Corey. Now, here I am and we're getting married in just over 3 weeks javascript:emoticon(' ')javascript:emoticon(' ')javascript:emoticon(' ')
