Review Topic: K1 Visa
I wanted to support my fiancé but we knew that I wouldn't be let in so I dropped off my fiancé at around 7:15am at the embassy to join the long que. I gave him my passport to show to the CO. He didn't get out till about 2:15pm. He was interviewed by a bald African American man. It was very confusing for my fiancé because the CO originally stated that we were submitting duplicate evidence and called my fiancé to the window a total of 4 times, each time giving him back his evidence and shaking his head. At one point my fiancé stated that he felt a bit embarrassed because the CO was accusing him of wasting his time and providing duplicate evidence. My fiancé responded with an apology and that we both worked on the file together so if there were any duplicates it was in error. The CO just kept shaking his head as if he wasn't going to grant us the visa. At the fourth call up to the window he started to ask questions and start the interview:
1. How did you meet your fiance?
2. What time did you take her home?- in my initial I-129f petition i stated that my fiancé took me home at 4 am however my fiancé stated it was after midnight but closer to 12am. With this response the CO brought to my fiance's attention my statement of how we met and circled that it said 4am and asked who was lying my fiancé or I. My fiancé stuck to his guns and was adamant about it being closer to 12 am
3. What does your fiancé do?
4. So she is only in school?
5. Where does she work part time?
6. What are the preparations for the wedding?
7. Have you guys ever had a major dispute?
8. The CO also asked where I was to which my fiancé explained I was at home awaiting the decision since we thought I wouldn't be let in and produced my passport. The CO looked through my passport for the stamps that I was in the country.
My fiancé added that with each answer the guy kept shaking his head as if he was doubtful of his responses. This prompted my fiancé to give more information about me and our visits together and relationship. My fiancé had a hard time but soon realized that the CO was trying to break his confidence by shaking his head and not looking him in the eye. In response my fiancé became even more confident in his answers and descriptions and kept trying to make eye contact with him. In the end the CO slid the blue paper forward and approved my fiancé of the visa. After reflecting on the situation my fiancé felt like it was our evidence of the current relationship, proof that we were going to get married and that we had certain preparation in place as well as the confidence he had during the interview that enabled us to be successful. If your relationship is genuine the best way to prove it is by being able to elaborate a bit on stories to prove that this person is in your life permanently and your lives are starting to blend with each other. God has successfully gotten us through this phase with prayers and putting Him first in everything. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
